Discovery Room

The BISNS Discovery Room  provides our students opportunities for both guided and independent explorations, making observations, predictions, creative thinking, testing theories, sharing thoughts and ideas, and using motor skills to achieve their goals. Sometimes our work is specific to a STEM topic. Other times the children freely explore the many areas of the room that invite curiosity and intentional interactions with the materials.  This unique room offers ramp discovery using a magnetic wall, rubber ramp and tubes, light exploration with an overhead projector and flashlights in our blackout corner, adventures in force with the movement of air in our wind tunnel, sensory experimentation at the water table, stability and purpose with our many construction materials and design and creativity with loose parts.  

If you were to peek in this special environment you would see children deeply engaged in hands-on activities that promote construction of knowledge. How do we know it is a fun place to learn? We listen to our children!  It is often that we hear statements such as, “This is awesome!” and “We don’t want to leave.  We love the Discovery Room!”  Their excitement is infectious!
