Thank you for your interest in B’nai Israel. We would love to welcome you to our home for Jewish life.
We are more than a place of worship. We are a community committed to spirituality, education, personal relationships, personal growth, and the ongoing Jewish journey. Our Congregation includes members who are new to the region and others who have been here for generations. We are individuals of all backgrounds, including interfaith, LGBTQ, people with disabilities, and diverse levels of personal observance.
B’nai Israel Congregation is warm and inclusive, affiliated with the Conservative Movement, and has deep roots in the Washington, DC community. Founded in 1926 as one of the first synagogues in Washington, DC for the community that was moving out of downtown, our roots as a neighborhood, community-based center of learning are reflected in our current values and priorities. We are an egalitarian, inclusive, accessible, and welcoming Conservative congregation.
We value spirituality, whether at daily minyan, regular Shabbat and holiday services, special life cycle events, or in nontraditional settings. We value education and learning, from our Nursery School through our Talmud Torah and Confirmation Class to our extensive Adult Education offerings. We value tzedakah and tikkun olam—charity, social justice and a responsibility to care for others. And we support Jewish community locally, in Israel, and throughout the world.
We would love to introduce you to the benefits of being a part of our warm, caring Congregation. Please feel free to join us for an upcoming Shabbat (or daily) service or contact us for a tour of our facility and a chance to meet members of our clergy and professional staff.
