B’nai Israel Schilit Nursery School offers the very best in early childhood education. Our program respects the uniqueness of each child, and is designed to provide young children with a warm environment that promotes optimal learning and development. Our programs start with playgroups for newborns and parents and progress until age 5 with our pre-K.
Our core values of Jewish culture, traditions and rituals are embedded into everyday life. Our teachers develop the student’s self-confidence through opportunities for learned independence. Children are seen as curious and creative learners who best develop critical thinking and problem solving
skills through discovery.
B’nai Israel Schilit Nursery School offers extended hours both in the morning and afternoon for children ages 2–5 to accommodate those who need a full-day option. We also offer after school enrichment activities for those children who simply don’t want their school day to end quite yet. While our school year is September–June, we offer a year round option with our teacher staffed summer program, Camp Katan, and childcare.
We are proud of the fact that our award winning school has earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest Jewish nursery schools in Montgomery County, Maryland. It is our goal to provide your children with high level, developmentally appropriate learning in a nurturing environment. By encouraging children’s natural curiosity, we open the door to a love of lifelong learning.

We know we made the right decision sending our kids to B’nai Israel Schilit Nursery School. Walking through the doors of B’nai each morning and seeing our daughter’s face light up is very comforting. BISNS teachers and staff create a nurturing, creative and fun environment! With many years between our oldest and youngest, we have enjoyed the strong and supportive community of BISNS. We are thrilled to see familiar faces in returning teachers and families and pleased with the addition of great new teachers and wonderful families to the BISNS family.

It feels great to be back at BISNS with our daughter, Shira, after a break of three school years with our older sons. We always loved the warm, friendly atmosphere, fabulous facilities, wonderful families, and nurturing teachers who chose to spend their days with our boys, and we are thrilled that Shira is experiencing all of that for herself now. She is so happy here that she even asks for school on days off! Steve and I are also enjoying the opportunity to reconnect with families and teachers who have stuck around and to meet those who are new to us. Looking forward to making more great memories here (especially in the beloved bike room!) in the days and years to come.

Both Ian and Alexandra love coming to school! But more than that, we love how Ian and Alex bring school home with them, and how BISNS has made itself home for us. Ian loves his teachers so much that he likes to ‘play school’. We have to play the kids, so we feel like we are ALL getting a good BISNS education. His class is taking a pretend trip to Israel, complete with flights, passports, and security! Ben also frequently travels internationally for work, so Ian and Ben compare their airport and travel adventures when they both get ‘home’.
Having recently relocated from Capitol Hill, life turned upside down for Ian (and us!)—moving from the city, new house and a new sibling. But when we started looking into schools, the name Karen Gerton seemed oddly familiar. Turns out, she is an old family friend, which made the school decision easy, and has been a great forerunner of the inclusive nature of the school and the BISNS community. We feel like we’ve been here forever!
