Jewish self-rule in ancient Israel was a delicate balance that we will look at carefully with ancient texts and our modern perspectives. It involved negotiating the inherent conflicts between kingdom and empire building, religious particularism, and the wants and needs of the people being ruled. We will study Kings I and II, Chronicles I and II, and other sources.
Presented by the Haberman Institute for Jewish Studies.
