Leadership Crises of ‘Biblical’ Proportions with Steve Kerbel (January 23)

Leadership Crises of ‘Biblical’ Proportions with Steve Kerbel (January 23)

Date: Wednesday, January 23, 2019

Time: 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Wednesday, January 9 and nine more Wednesdays (No class on January 30.)
Presented by the Foundation for Jewish Studies.

Starting with the earliest Israelite kings, we will explore the Bible’s honest criticism, skepticism and history of kingship and leadership. We will use a close reading of the biblical text to understand early Israelite history. Knowledge of Hebrew is always helpful, but not necessary—we will read in English with occasional references to the Hebrew to understand the story, idioms and choices of the translator. Any modern Hebrew-English Bible will work as our text for the class.

STEVE KERBEL is an independent education consultant in the Greater Washington DC area, and has been involved in Jewish education for the last 30 years. Steve is a consultant and project director for the Center for Israel Education at Emory University in Atlanta. Steve serves as National President of the Jewish Educators Assembly. In what seems like a different lifetime, Steve earned a law degree and was in the private practice of law for eight years. Among Steve’s
avocations, he facilitates wine tastings featuring Israeli wines and teaches about the geography of Israel through its wines and wine maker.
