B’nai Israel Men’s Club and Sisterhood are pleased to present Gideon Amir, a noted lecturer on Jewish Studies. With the Israeli election scheduled for September 17, one of the main challenges that Israel faces will be the role religious groups play in Israeli society. Mr. Amir will focus on the Israeli religious parties and their influence in forming a governing coalition. Contact Wayne Berman to RSVP.
GIDEON AMIR, born in Holland to Holocaust survivors, grew up in Israel. He has taught adult education classes on the Bible and other Jewish subjects through the Melton program, the Foundation for Jewish Studies, synagogues, and churches. In Israel and in the United States, Amir first had a distinguished career in computer science, working for NASA, British Telecom, and Cisco Systems and teaching at universities and colleges. In 1999, he enrolled in a full-time graduate program at Baltimore Hebrew University, where he received a master’s degree (with honors) and completed all coursework required for a Ph.D.
