What is the purpose of prayer today? Is it possible for a modern rational person to have a relationship with the Divine? How do we balance a received tradition with our innate need for individual meaning? Throughout the year, Eliana will work with our clergy and lay leaders to explore traditional modes of prayer, and reinvigorate the prayer experience of the congregation.

5:45 PM Wine & Cheese Reception
6:15 PM Kabbalat Shabbat and Ma’ariv, led by Eliana
7:30 PM Shabbat Dinner with joyous singing of Zemirot (Shabbat melodies)

ELIANA LIGHT Raised in Memphis, TN on soul music and synagogue life, Eliana’s passion for Jewish life and learning shines through all her work. Eliana’s goal is to help individuals discover themselves within the depth and richness of Jewish life, and to take ownership of their Judaism. She has released two albums of original Jewish music. She is the author of Hebrew in Harmony, a curriculum published by Behrman House that teaches prayer and Hebrew through music. In 2017, Eliana founded the G!D Project, an educational initiative focused on accessible, meaningful conversations about G!D and spirituality through ritual, text, and creativity. Eliana graduated from the Jewish Theological Seminary with a Masters in Experiential Jewish Education in 2016 and is based in Durham, NC.

The Shabbat Project continues on Saturday, November 16, and Sunday, November 17.
