Jill Gendelman

Jill Gendelman, Librarian

Jill Gendelman, a B’nai member since 1997, joined the staff in 2008. She loves her job as Librarian, servicing all facets of our congregation by providing a comfortable and well-stocked library for reference, education, study, and reading enjoyment. Jill creates diverse programs that incorporates the interests of the members and complements the amazing Nursery school, Talmud Torah, Upper School and Adult Education curriculum. She worked hard to earn an Advanced Accreditation by the Association of Jewish Libraries, and a Solomon Schechter Gold Award from the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism for our library.

Jill Graduated with an undergraduate in anthropology, a post baccalaureate program in pre-med from Colorado State University, and a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh. During those years she taught science labs, tutored in the sciences, and had a diabetes and lipid research fellowship. After years of working in environmental Epidemiology for the private sector and then for the Environmental Protection Agency, she retired to raise her children. Later, followed by many years of volunteering in the classroom, and a short teaching course offered by the Federation, she taught for the Girls Yeshiva of Greater Washington, and finally ended up here at B’nai Israel Blumberg Zalis Library.
