SHABBAT & IN-PERSON GUIDELINES FOR A MINYAN IN DWECK SANCTUARY
COVID-19 SAFETY PROCEDURES FOR IN-PERSON WORSHIP
In partnership with our Roadmap to Reopening Task Force and in accordance with requirements established by Montgomery County, B’nai Israel allows for limited in-person worship opportunities:
Shabbat Mornings
Services continue to meet on Shabbat morning in Dweck Sanctuary with limited attendance, distancing requirements, and the health screening guidelines listed below. Pre-registration is required and we ask that you arrive at 9:00 AM and stay until the end of the service. If you’d like an invitation to attend Shabbat morning services, please email Allison Karasik.
Weekday Morning Minyan – In Person on Wednesdays
We will have Wednesday morning minyan in Dweck Sanctuary at 7:15 AM. This service will also be accessible via Zoom for those who wish to participate from home. For now, all other weekday minyanim will remain on Zoom. The same protocols and requirements mentioned above apply for this service. If you’d like to attend Wednesday minyan, please sign up here.
Minyan in Dweck Sanctuary Safety Guidelines
Attendance is by invitation only for Shabbat. Preference is given to B’nai Mitzvah families and then individuals who are saying Kaddish.
- All individuals must arrive by 9:00 AM and stay for the entire service. No seating in first row all around. No seating in first 2 seats next to aisle for each row. Two pews empty for each pew used.
- Masks must be worn whenever people are in the building. There are no exceptions to this policy.
- All who enter the building must first complete a medical screening form and waiver Please click here for the form.
- Prayerbooks will be placed only at seats where people are permitted to be. Other prayerbooks will be removed. Each week, the prayerbooks will be swapped out.
- There will be a cordless mic set up on a stand just below the steps to the center bima. This is where a person taking an aliyah will stand. There will be no kissing of the Torah and no gabbaim standing on the center bima. People can correct Torah from their seats (not through a microphone).
- Ingress will be through the glass doors. Egress will be through the double doors in the Northeast corner of the sanctuary. There will be arrows on the floor.
- Restrooms will be cleaned regularly. In addition, there will be a container of sanitary wipes inside each restroom. Only one person is allowed in the restroom at a time. Family members who are living in the same house can enter at the same time. In addition there will be two signs in each restroom: Please wash hands with soap (posters available here: https://www.cdc.gov/handwashing/campaign.html); and Sanitary Wipes are available for to wipe surfaces before and after use.
