HAZAK: The Ritchie Boys: Secret Heroes of World War II with Bernie Lubran

Thursday, December 9, 2021 5 Tevet 5782

1:00 PM - 2:00 PMZoom

As the United States entered into World War II, the US Military recognized the valuable contributions that refugees from European countries could make by using their language skills and knowledge of the culture of the enemy. Thus, a top-secret Military Intelligence Training Center was established at Camp Ritchie, located less than one hour from Washington, DC. Sworn to secrecy, these soldiers, underwent rigorous training in intelligence gathering and psychological warfare techniques, and their achievements played an important role in the ultimate victory of the Allies.

Bernie Lubran is the President of the Friends of Camp Ritchie, a non-profit dedicated to preserving the lessons learned from Camp Ritchie, MD, and the soldiers who trained there (“The Ritchie Boys”), and helping Ritchie Boy family members share stories, photos, and memories through a Facebook site, “Ritchie Boys of WWII.” Bernie and his wife reside in North Bethesda, MD. His late father was a German refugee who served in the US Army and trained in military intelligence at Camp Ritchie.
