Inclement Weather Policy
WEATHER INFORMATION
INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY:
B’nai Israel has four separate but interconnected inclement weather policies. The policies below refer to the B’nai Israel Schilit Nursery School (BISNS); Talmud Torah & Youth Events; B’nai Israel Offices & Programs; and Religious Services. Please consult each policy independently. If there is no schedule disruption, nothing will be posted on the website. Departments may also communicate closings via email, text, or social media, but the website is the most reliable source for this information. Individuals or groups renting B’nai Israel facilities should consult with their B’nai Israel contact person about the status of their events.
B’NAI ISRAEL SCHILIT NURSERY SCHOOL (BISNS)
BISNS will make independent decisions for any school weather closures. An e-mail will be sent out to communicate with the school community. When decisions regarding school closings are made, these decisions are posted on the B’nai Israel website and an e-mail is sent to the school.
TALMUD TORAH & YOUTH EVENTS
Talmud Torah and Youth Events will make their own determination about closings and follow the inclement weather policies provided below.
1. Tuesday: Tuesday Talmud Torah closings will be communicated by 1:00 PM on the day of school.
2. Sunday: Sunday Talmud Torah & Youth Events closings will be communicated by 7:30 AM on the morning of school.
3. Saturday Night: Saturday Night Youth Events closings will be communicated by 3:00 PM Friday, before the building closes for Shabbat.
B’NAI ISRAEL OFFICES & PROGRAMS
During a weather event, B’nai Israel Offices and Programs will take into consideration the Montgomery County Public Schools Administrative Offices weather plan, but ultimately will make our own determination about closings by 7:30 AM the morning of the event. If B’nai Israel offices are open, programs and meetings scheduled for that day will take place. If weather conditions dictate an early closing to B’nai Israel Offices & Programs, the closing will be communicated by 2:00 PM.
RELIGIOUS SERVICES
Even when our building is closed, we will make every effort to open for our morning and evening minyan services. Due to the early start time of the morning minyan during the week, we will announce closings by 9:00 PM on the evening before. Announcements about the evening minyan will be made by 4:00 PM. In the unlikely event that we have to close the building for Shabbat, that information will be posted by 3:00 PM on Friday, before the building closes for Shabbat.
