Pride Shabbat - "Pride: Looking Back and Dreaming Ahead"
Friday, June 4, 2021 • 24 Sivan 5781
6:15 PM - 7:15 PMJoin us for a special Kabbalat Shabbat service and inspirational drash with Essie Shachar-Hill, LSW, as we affirm and celebrate our commitment to LGBTQ inclusion.
Essie Shachar-Hill, LSW, (they/them/theirs pronouns) is a facilitator, educator, social worker, and therapist in Chicago. Much of their work falls at the intersection of gender, sexuality, and mental health. As well as being a licensed social worker, Essie holds a Certificate in Jewish Communal Leadership from the University of Michigan and has a passion for making Jewish spaces more inclusive for all people. As a therapist, Essie works primarily with trauma survivors and others who live on the margins. Essie believes that transforming larger societal and organizational culture is part of this healing work. They have years of experience working with youth and adults in a variety of settings, including support groups, youth empowerment organizations, and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) initiatives.
