Yom Haatzmaut (israel independence day)

Yom HaAtzmaut celebrates the date on the Hebrew calendar (5 Iyyar) when David Ben Gurion declared the establishment of the modern State of Israel in 1948. This joyous day is preceded by Yom HaZikaron, Israel Memorial Day, when we remember the brave heroes who fought to establish and defend our state. Celebrations for this holiday vary widely, but synagogue and community assemblages are the norm.

As an Israel-centric congregation, B’nai Israel is proud to host the annual communal commemoration of Israel’s fallen soldiers, sponsored by the Embassy of Israel. Our celebration of Yom HaAtzmaut includes fun activities for children and adults of all ages, from moonbounces and art projects to compelling cultural programs. The annual Yom HaAtzmaut barbecue is one of the highlights of our program year.
